Most professionals can play in rainy weather. They can tolerate cold weather and endure very hot temperatures. When it comes to strong, gusting winds, professionals start crying that conditions are so unfair and the wind makes it impossible to hit a good shot. That is nonsense. The spoiled primadonnas that professional golfers have become, should take a lesson from some of the great golfers of the past. Bobby Jones never complained it was too windy. Instead he made adjustments to compensate for the wind. One tip is to try to keep the ball flight low. Also you will need to change your normal club selection depending on the strength and direction of the wind. With the wind, use a shorter, more lofted club. Against the wind, a longer, less lofted club is appropriate.

Everything begins with the golf grip. If you do not have a good grip, you won’t be able to consistently hit good shots. The grip allows you to take the club back properly, bring it down in the right arc and release the club head through the ball. You can practice making a good grip without a golf club. Simply extend your arms, hold your hands flat and place the pinky of your right hand on top of the index finger of your left hand. Slowly allow your pinky to fall between your right hand’s index and middle fingers. Interlock it by curling it up against the top of your left hand. Now, curl all the rest of your fingers as if you were making a fist. That is the basic grip.

Seniors looking to improve their play require golf instruction geared to their specific needs. While many older golfers can still outplay golfers twenty years younger, they no longer can hit the ball as far as they used to when they were younger. To compensate for the loss of power, most good senior golfers have to improve their accuracy, particularly around the green. So, Seniors should focus their attention on the short term. A useful senior golf lesson would include instruction of pitching, chipping and putting. Escaping from a sandtrap and hitting a wedge shot from 80 yards or so are two more possible areas that could be addressed. By improving your skills around the green, you might very well make up a few strokes you loose because of not being able to hit the ball very far.

One of the best things that you can do to improve your swing is to use a golf swing analyzer. Launch monitors are available at most stores that sell golf equipment and can make a tremendous difference in your game. By using a swing analyzer, you can track important statistics like your ball speed, spin rate, club head speed, and launch angle. All of these factors contribute to how your ball flies and the distance that it will travel. If you don’t have access to any store that has a launch monitor, you can buy rudimentary equipment online that will measure your club head speed. This is one of the more important statistics and can help you to determine whether or not you are playing the proper flex in your shafts.

To create your maximum club head speed and to generate the most distance, it’s important to understand the proper golf swing sequence. The proper golf swing sequence refers to the swing from the top of the backswing to the follow through. Your arms need to have the freedom to accelerate towards the ball as fast as possible while blending in leg movement to generate power. Practice swinging the club with your arms only, feeling the club accelerate through the swing. Once you have that feeling down, it’s time to add leg action. From the top of the backswing, bring the club down to your waist level and then turn through with your hips as quickly as you can. This will set into motion the proper sequence in your swing, allowing you to hit consistent shots.
